Unions take on DIY shows for veiling asbestos consequences
Renovation TV shows have come under deep scrutiny of a clan of Communications, Electrical and Plumbing Union (CEPU) and Unions NSW, for wrapping the dire consequences of asbestos use.
There is no denial over the fact that Nine Network's The Block and Ten's The Renovators have mass popularity among millions of viewers, thus it becomes highly imperative to make them spread public safety message.
Deciphering the consequences of asbestos, Unions NSW Secretary Mark Lennon added, "The tragedy of asbestos-related illness has touched far too many families and these DIY home renovation shows need to ensure they're not unwittingly adding to the problem”.
Stepping ahead, the critics are of the opinion that lest suitable action is being taken by the makers or the channels, opposition for the same will continue. Even President Barry Robson of the Asbestos Diseases Foundation of Australia has come out to make the channels realize their moral responsibility towards the welfare of the society.
It has been claimed that even exposure to a fraction of asbestos can prove to be fatal and that’s the reason perhaps asbestos use in construction business had been inviting criticism across the world for quite a long time. Amid the controversy, no body from Channels 9 and 10 came out for any reaction.
