It's easy to forget about the drains in your home until you encounter a problem. It's not like a dirty toilet or an overflowing garbage can. When things start to go wrong, it's hidden and not always obvious.

That's why Derry, NH remodeler Laura Foster-Bobroff recommends a weekly preventative maintenance routine to keep drains in working smoothly.

All you need to do is pour a mixture of ½ cup baking soda, ¼ cup of salt and 1 cup of vinegar down the drain, let it sit there for 15 minutes and rinse it all out with hot water for a few minutes. This should prevent any kind of build up or clog from taking hold and keep the water flowing.
