Franchise Background

The Drain Surgeon is the largest maintenance plumbing franchise in South Africa which started from humble beginnings in Pretoria. Glenn Pratt started Glenn Pratt Plumbing in 1979 and soon thereafter converted the name to The Drain Surgeon. The business started off with one bakkie and soon grew into a small fleet. Glenn’s unique approach to marketing, skilful adaptation of business principles and making customer service his highest priority moulded a business that was conducive to franchising. With assistance from his wife, robust administrative procedures where designed and using franchise experts to package the concept, an opportunity in Soweto provided a platform to launch the franchise in 1980.

A phenomenal growth in franchise numbers followed and today there are 23 franchises scattered across South Africa. Locations range from Kathu to Richards Bay to Plettenberg Bay.
